Nellie Escalante, Senior Educator

BA in Art History and Latin American Studies, MA in Anthropology from Hunter College


Nellie Escalante helped establish Arts & Minds en Español to reach the Latinx community of people living with dementia in 2015. She facilitates Arts & Minds professional development training in English and in Spanish. Nellie is a member of the teaching team at the Studio Museum in Harlem and the Metropolitan Museum of Art and has taught at El Museo del Barrio and the Museum of the Moving Image. She has presented at the New York City Museum Educators Roundtable (NYCMER) and The Kennedy Center’s Leadership Exchange in Arts and Disability (LEAD). Nellie is an artist, museum educator, blogger, published author, and creative entrepreneur. She has published essays and articles in museum catalogs and online publications, particularly about Puerto Rican art and artists.
